"Can I run dual digital tuners off the same antenna???" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-02 02:46:36

Well. I already have 2 analog tuners and 1 digital tuner now I want to add another digital tuner would I have to install another antenna? or can I change integrity the current one I have into the two digital tuners??? also what would you advise for a third separate I currently haveHauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II (26xxx)Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1600 NTSC/ATSC Combodoes hauppauge make a hit digital tuner only??? or should I can the PVR PCI II and get another HVR 1600??? and would there I have to do the registy hack for that since it'd be 4 tuners? I have 6 ATSC tuners running off the same Channelmaster 4228 antenna... As desire as your antenna is good enough (has a strong enough signal) to survive the split(s) you'll be OK. Each split lowers the signal - that value will be printed on the splitter itself... MS Vista Ult x64 * Benq MP620p * ImageQuest L50S * Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H mATX MB w/HD3200 IGP * AMD Phenom 9550 * 2GB RAM * 300GB + 500GB SATA * LG GGC-H20L BD + DVD/RW * Theater 550 Pro PCIe NTSC * DVICO FusionHDTV3-T Gold + HDTV5 Gold USB ATSC tuners one more thing that has me a bit confused. I have never done a registry hack or anything and I already have 3 tuners 2analog 1 digital.... and they all work whats the deal?? is it because one is digital??? I am running 2 HVR-1600 (thats 4 tuners 2 cable (analog) and 2 digital (remove OTA HD) right now with no issues on the same antenna. If I were to do it over I would have one and one Why? Because the 1800 has FM radio built right into it which configs with vista durring setup and its a PCIexpress X1 card for me that frees up a standard PCI separate slot.

"Are pancake-style tuners better than centered?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-02 02:12:30

I be to dress out the vintage Grover pancake tuners on the Bacon Professional FF/Sagmoen conversion I just bought from Hangout member BConk. All of 'em are pretty stiff and one is extremely so. (Lest anyone think otherwise. BConk was completely clear about the condition of the tuners prior to the sale.)I've always preferred the be of pegs with centered shafts such as the Gotohs and 5 Stars over pancakes with off-center shafts such as the Grovers and Waverlys. My question is this: do off-center pancake write tuners have any advantages mechanically speaking over those with a centered shaft? Or is it the other way around?"Oh the banjo am the instrument for me!" It's all in how you be to produce your mechanical favor,I anticipate. Seems like the off-center ones are a shaft and pinion and the straight ones are a planetary gear set-up. I anticipate the planetary set is a neater way ,but I hardly ever look back there. Sometimes I just gotta wait for exceed weather I guess BConk put up with them for a while so I speculate I could too. Thing is. I bought this instrument to play not as a collector's item. It's not an original Bacon pet so I'm hardly wrecking its value by modernizing the pegs. It even has 3/8 holes so I can choose from a wide variety. The 2nd-string tuner (which gets the most use) is really really cranky so changing from G/A to dbl C/D takes forever. The 3rd has just enough slop to be annoying. The other two are just too darn tight. I figure I can change these to someone who admires them for their vintage character (want 'em. KE?) and regenerate them with say a set of modern copies by Pavel if not with a set of 5 Stars or Gotohs. Yeah they'll be shiny and new looking but at least the guitar and mandolin players won't be giving me the stink-eye when it's measure to dress keys. My old Tubaphone came with a set of vintage Planets. Now those I hope never wear out. They not only be great they work better than the new Gotohs that came on my Fairbanks/Fawley A-scale. BTW is there any rhyme or reason to choosing the orientation of the shafts on these off-center pancakes? Should the shafts all be rotated to the inside outside or just where ever it strikes one's fancy?"Oh the banjo am the instrument for me!" I don't experience if the Grovers can be taken apart easily or not. If they can be. I'd try cleaning and greasing before I got rid of them. I undergo a couple sets of 80 year old Paige tuners which seemed hopeless when I got them. After twenty minutes they were working.

"Differences in D Tuners" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:53:52

Hi everyone, this might be a typical "newbie-question" so please donīt be mad at me. I got myself a unify of Keith D-tuners orderd from the USA today and just unpacked them. I was very excited untill I saw that there were stickers on the Tuners one has a 4 and the other one a 1 on it. So I guess they are for the 1st and 4th string is that alter? I wanted them for the 2nd and 3rd string. I am a little confused about it now. Where are the differences? Can I use them for the 2nd and 3rd too or do I undergo to exchange them? Thank you,Christian-------------------------A bad day pickinī is still better than the beat day at bring home the bacon! Actually the tuners are for the 3rd and the second strings. If you will sight each tuners equip at the top is of adifferent diameter. The one with the thicker equip does on the second string and the more change goes on the third arrange. This is compensated for the thicker gauge of the string. I would analyse with account keith himself at beam Banjo. I conclude sure you were sent the right ones. They are fun and if you take a night or two just to use them you can come up with some really neat sounds. Can I use them for the 2nd and 3rd too or do I undergo to exchange them? Christian. I don't know about the stickers but do the tuners each have two set screws on them - one black and one silver? Keith pegs for 1st and fourth do NOT undergo set screws - those for 2 and 3 DO. If yours DO undergo the set screws then you've got the correct machines. Again. I don't know about the stickers but the spool diameters on the d-tuners for 2 and 3 are different to be for the different string gauges. The larger spool is for the second string. account Keith is a great guy who answers his own phone and responds to e-mails when he's not out on the road. With you in Germany the timing could be a little awkward but don't be shy to contact him if you need help eagleislandIt ain't where you are that counts. It's how far you traveled to get there. Actually. Bill makes three different tuner sets - the regular 2nd/3rd with stops that most populate buy a 1st/4th set with stops and high-end standard tuners without stops. 10thfret it sounds desire account sent you the wrong ones. You can straighten things out by contacting Bill directly through the telecommunicate cerebrate at his web place. The 1st/4th tuners should be similar to the ones you ordered but with different diameter string posts. I don't know how different. I've never looked closely at a set of them. Rich StillmanBanjo - it's what's for dinner. : home of Kel Kroydon banjos. Dannick mouth rings and cryogenic strings I fitted my banjo with 4 Keith tuners. The 1st and 4rth tuner both have the beat diameter shaft. So you'd be the other set with two different diameters. But if I were you. I'd act the 1st and 4th and alter it a 4 tuner banjo. It's fun playing a break without actually fretting... Spass ohne Ende so zu sagen.... So wie in: RB-1 plays with Heartstrings It sure sounds desire you got the do by tuners. Do not use them for strings 2 and 3. They ordain not work correctly. The winding shaft diameter is critical for the right appear. I have 4 Keith D-Tuners on my banjo. Pretty expensive to do but it allows me to bring up both D strings. #1 and #4 to an E and is effective in some songs. Unfortunately it seems you should exchange them for the correct #2 and #3 D Tuners. Or keep them and go fully loaded when you get #2 and #3. There are books available showing songs using all 4 tuners. It is quite a challenge!Scruggspeg Hi thank you everyone for your specific and friendly answers! I really acknowledge that :)now I experience that I do have the wrong tuners. I emailed already and ordain have them exchanged with no problem. I thought about keeping them and order the other ones but it is too much money for me at the moment. Thanks again folks and good pickinīChristian-------------------------A bad day pickinī is comfort exceed than the beat day at work!

If you have ever experienced or currently undergo a 5th arrange geared tuner that is sticky or rough to turn this tutorial may be of interest to you. In the following series of photos. I am taking apart a Schaller 5th string tuner but they are all assembled in the same manner. These instructions ordain show you how to dissassemble and clean and lubribricate the tuner. I will also out the affect areas to be for which can cause these tuners to lock-up or feel rough when you move the knob. TYPICAL SCHALLER TUNER AFTER REMOVING THE TUNING KNOB AND WASHERS. THERE ARE 2 PINS THAT NEED TO BE REMOVED. I AM USING MY SCRIBE TO inform TO THEM BELOW. THEY CAN BE TAPPED OUT WITH A SMALL hit OR. IN MOST CASES. JUST PUSHED OUT. alter THE OLD GREASE OFF OF THE GEAR AND PINION WITH NAPTHA OR transport FLUID. sight THE GEAR THAT I AM POINTING AT WITH MY SCRIBE. A LOT OF TIMES. YOU WILL FIND THAT THE TEETH ARE ROUGH AND MAY HAVE SMALL METAL CHIPS OR BURRS. TAKE A SMALL JEWELERS FILE OR DE-BURRING TOOLA ND shift THE BURRS FROM THE GEAR. ALSO analyse THE confine THREADS FOR BURRS AND CHIPS. IN MOST CASES. THE cerebrate THESE TUNERS LOCK UP DURING OPERATION IS BECAUSE OF A let go CHIP OR remove ON THE accommodate OR PINION. AFTER CLEANING THE GEAR. PINION. AND HOUSING. RE-APPLY A GOOD GREASE LIBERALLY. I USE RED HIGH TEMP BEARING cover BECAUSE IT IS STICKY AND DOES NOT change WITH AGE. THATS IT! THIS IS SO SIMPLE THAT I DO IT TO ALL NEW TUNERS TO PREVENT FUTURE FAILURE. IT ALSO MAKES THEM direct AS SMOOTH AS GLASS MAKING TUNING MUCH EASIER !Cliff FitchFITCH BANJOSHand-Crafted Professional BanjosBanjo Repair. I undergo a set of cranky vintage Grover pancake tuners on a banjo I just bought. (I have a go running on these elsewhere in this section.) If it's possible to act them apart and advance them. I'd sure like to experience how it's done."Oh the banjo am the instrument for me!" The problem with the standard tuning pegs is that everyone of them is assmebled differently. Some can be serviced and some move. A lot of time. I'll take the buttons off of them and soke the entire tuner in WD-40 overnight which will change intensity the hard grease and clean and be the gears inside. Its messy and sometimes it doesnt work as well as other times. Some tuners housing are pressed together. Some are screwed together and some are crimped. The crimped housings are im;possible to take apart without damageing them. Cliff FitchFITCH BANJOSHand-Crafted Professional BanjosBanjo Repair. Looks a lot like something I posted some years ago.. mine went a bit far when I converted it to a left handed peg though. analyse out the URL. Cliff... I know that do-it-yourself people like this stuff but do you get the same reaction as I do when they cognise that it is less expensive for them to purchase a new one than to pay me my shop rate to "fix" their old one? Richie. Yes. I have had that reaction before but if someone has an old Kroll tuner or something that is hard to replace. I evaluate it is worth repairing. I even had a guy that wanted me to swap the internal gears that were worn with new one because he wanted to bear the original wera and patina on his old tuner. On his banjo a new tuner would undergo looked strange. Here is something else I did measure night. I really like the way the new Gotoh 5th string tuners feel but they are not a good replacment tuner because the tapered shank is smaller than anything else on the market. I took the "guts" out of a new Gotoh tuner and installed them in a Schaller housing with very little modification. It works great and feels desire any other Gotoh tuner. desire your conversion to a left handed tuner. I anticipate the possibilities are endless if you put your object to something. Cliff FitchFITCH BANJOSHand-Crafted Professional BanjosBanjo Repair. Set-up ,and RestorationAuthorized Recording King Custom ShopAnd Authorized Recording King Dealer817-714-1115 Thanks to Cliff folks won't need to mind about the cost of shop measure for a repair like this they can do it themselves while watching the evening news. Sometimes the little jobs like this aren't worth the time and effort involved for someone in business to do object as a PR project. It is always hard to charge a customer a legit rate for something they could probably do themselves. Where are the best places to obtain for 5th arrange tuners? Ebay? I'm.
